SSI + Nvidia: Scale the Alignment Bet

The capital still likely recycles into Nvidia silicon — Reddit and secondary analysis are not wrong that GPU revenue is the core of the trade — but the narrative is different from a multi-gigawatt campus lease guarantee. One is “fund the customer who buys racks.” The other is “fund the lab whose next architecture might need a new class of machine.”

Agent-stack implication: frontier research clusters and open-weight commodity clusters will keep diverging. Route boring loops to open weights and fixed-price hosts; treat SSI/frontier-class systems as scarce research and high-stakes tools, not default autocomplete.

The complaint (per TechCrunch) alleges nearly a year of engineering collaboration under NDA and trial terms that barred copying IP — then a tip that Rippling was building “almost a 1 to 1 copy.” Rippling confirms it is launching its own MCP gateway and denies misusing Runlayer IP, calling the suit a panic move.

MCP started as Anthropic’s open protocol for wiring models to tools and data. Gateway products add enterprise control planes — auth, audit, policy, multi-agent routing. The market got crowded fast; selling that layer into other tech companies is now a cautionary sales story: long trials, deep technical disclosure, then “we will build it ourselves.”

For builders: treat MCP gateways as commodity-leaning infrastructure. Prefer open protocol surfaces, thin adapters, and portable policy config over locking your agent fleet to one vendor’s control plane. If you are evaluating gateways, assume your best customers may become your competitors.

Reuters frames it as Trump-era redirection of CHIPS research funding toward critical semiconductor tech in the US–China race.

Copper and short-reach electrical links are the quiet bottleneck behind flashy GPU announcements. Silicon photonics is how you move more bits with less power once the rack is full of accelerators.
